Waldorf Muscial Ensembles to Perform at Immanuel

Waldorf College musical ensembles are teaming up to present a concert Sunday, April 11, at 3 p.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. The concert will feature the female vocal ensemble Sangkor, the Waldorf College Woodwind Quintet, the Ambassador Brass Ensemble from the Waldorf Wind Symphony, and the St. Christopher Chorale. The concert is free and open to the public.

That morning, at 10 a.m., The Waldorf Choir will present music for the Sunday service at Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond, Iowa. The public is invited to join for a morning of music and worship.

Volunteers needed for Blood Drive

Volunteers are needed for a blood drive on Friday, April 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Atrium. People are needed to help with:

• Recruiters - a couple students to sit at a table in front of Aramark encouraging people to sign up to be blood donors. (the week before– pick your days – lunch or supper)
• Set-up - 7-8 people to help the ARC set up on Friday, the 9th, from 8:30 – 9:00
• Tear-down - 7-8 people to help tear down from approximately 2:30 – 3:00.
• Greeters - needed 2 per hour shift (you welcome people as they come to the drive, help them get to the registration table, etc.)
• Escorts - needed 2-4 per shift (help donors get from donor table to the food canteen)
• Food Canteen - needed 2 people per hour shift (give beverages and food to donors)

Snacks are also needed for the blood drive. Donate a bag of pretzels, crackers, snack mix, cookies, etc. to the drive. Drop off snacks in the Atrium on Friday, April 9 by 9:30 or you can drop them off in the Student Health Services Office.

It's Time For The Great Egg Hunt!

Starting March 29 at 8 a.m., students can hunt for Easter eggs placed all over campus. There are eggs  scattered around Waldorf worth $500 in prizes and candy. Can you spot any?

Pick up prizes at the Campus Information Center from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Students can claim up to three prizes.

Monday, March 29, 7 p.m., (Atrium) - Edel Carrick of Edel's Choice will present a powerful Pro-Life talk based on her life experiences.  All are invited.  She will be on campus all day Monday to answer questions about her experiences.

Good Friday Service to discuss "Confrontation at the Cross"

Waldorf College will present a public, non-denominational Good Friday service on Friday, April 2, at noon in the Atrium. The service is sponsored by several area churches; Pastor Jim Haake of Springs of Life Foursquare Church will deliver the sermon.

The ecumenical service will include scripture and drama in addition to the message from Haake, entitled, “Confrontation at the Cross.” Haake said his sermon, “Will present the reality of the crucifixion and how that affects each person individually. Using the scripture from Isaiah 53, we will explore Isaiah’s recount and response to Jesus himself.”

The offering collected during the convocation will benefit local needy families through the Neighborhood Churches United.

Tenor Brian Stinar to perform at Immanuel Lutheran Church

Tenor Brian Stinar will perform on Sunday, March 28, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City at 7:30 p.m. The performance is part of the Waldorf Community Artist Series and is open to the public.

A Waldorf College graduate, tenor Brian Stinar has received critical acclaim for his “powerful vocal artistry” and his “engaging stage presence.” He has sung more than 25 leading roles and many pops concerts and oratorios ranging from Handel's “Messiah” to Verdi's “Requiem.”

Poetry reading and book signing by esteemed author Tod Marshall

Mark your calendars for this month’s reading by poet and Gonzaga University Professor of English, Dr. Tod Marshall!

Marshall will read from his work and sign books Monday, March 29, at 6:00 pm in the Art Galley. Copies of "Dare Say" and "The Tangled Line," his critically-acclaimed books of poetry, will soon be available at the Waldorf bookstore.

Marshall's first collection of poetry, "Dare Say", was the 2002 winner of the University of Georgia’s Contemporary Poetry Series. His second collection, "The Tangled Line", was published by Canarium Books in April 2009. He has also published a collection of interviews with contemporary poets, Range of the Possible (EWU Press 2002) and an accompanying anthology of poems by the interviewed poets, Range of Voices (EWU Press 2005). Marshall was born in Buffalo, New York, and earned an MFA in poetry from Eastern Washington University and a PhD in literature from the University of Kansas. He teaches English at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA.

Cultural talent will be featured at "One" showcase

A variety of cultures will be celebrated through the talents of Waldorf College international and American students at the talent show, “One” on Friday, March 19, at 7:30 p.m., in the Atrium. Sponsored by Waldorf’s Global Cultural Club and Social Warrior Activities Team (SWAT), the showcase is free and open to the public.

Performers will include members of the Global Cultural Club and additional Waldorf students. This is the first year the talent show will feature combined acts of both international and American students.

Performances include:
-Venezuelan dance
-Hip/Hop
-Native American dance
-Dance from the Democratic Republic of the Congo
-Video of international students

Good Luck to the Warrior Cheerleaders!

The Warrior Cheerleaders will travel to the CANAMM Nationals and College Championship in Myrtle Beach, SC this Saturday!

A dress rehearsal will be held Wednesday, March 17 at 7 p.m. in the multipurpose room of the Hanson Fieldhouse. Stop by and see what the squad will perform at nationals.

The Warrior Cheerleaders are an all-girl squad and feel that they have many advantages by being an all-girl squad because of the amazing partner stunts and pyramids that they are able to perform. They pride themselves with performing stunts which are usually considered to be “Co-ed level only!”

Go Green on St. Patrick's Day

Waldorf College will host its inaugural "Green Fair" March 17th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Atrium. Local businesses and organizations are encouraged to feature a booth showing how they are reducing their carbon footprint.

The fair is part of the college's "Green Week" sponsored by the Waldorf Go Green Committee.

Meals for Haiti

Waldorf College students, faculty and friends spent an afternoon packaging 50,000 meals to send to earthquake stricken Haiti. More than $13,000 were raised for the meals and hundreds of area school kids, youth groups and business people assisted in packaging for the Kids Against Hunger event.

Waldorf Choir Headed on Tri-State Tour

Best wishes to the Waldorf Choir as they embark on their three-state tour on Saturday! Be sure to catch their home concert at Immanuel Lutheran Church Sunday, March 14, at the 8:30 and 10:45 a.m. services.

The choir will visit churches in Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois. Committed to the tradition of praising God through song, the choir performs a wide variety of repertoire representing various historical time periods including music from the ever expanding Lutheran Choral Tradition.

Good Luck Warriors!!!

Good Luck to the Waldorf Wrestling team. They will compete this weekend for the national title!

The team placed 4th at the regionals in Oskaloosa, IA. The Warriors will travel to Oklahoma City University for the 2010 NAIA National Championship on March 4th.
